The Last Buick Open Champ

For the time being, Tiger is back. Sunday's victory at Warrick Hills in Grand Blanc, MI goes to show how Tiger can miss the cut one week and start to have everyone doubt his ability, then turn around and win a few weeks later. Although the Buick Open isn't even mentioned in the breath as the British or anyother major championship for that matter, Tiger knows when he has to win at the tournaments he is supposed to.

Buick used to adorn Tiger's golf bag for a number of years until just recently when AT&T took over as the sole sponsor for Tiger's staff bag. Buick could no longer pay Tiger the millions of dollars that is used to as a direct correlation with what is going on with the auto-industry. Buick's dollars, like many other American auto lines, are going towards revamping car's and increasing mpg technology rather than to extremely wealthy athletes. The current economic climate has given the auto-industry a new perspective on their priorities.

Back to Tiger's victory on Sunday, this win was an important one for not only Tiger but the state of Michigan and its loyal Buick Open fans that grace the fairways at Warrick Hills every summer. One of the rarest things to occur Sunday was Tiger's willingness to toss not one but two golfballs into the crowd. Those who follow Tiger know how rare this can be. It took a failing auto-industry and a plummeting economy for him to throw a $4 golf ball that he doesn't pay for into the crowd...Thanks Tiger, we'll never forget you!
